Essex UnITe website tour
Welcome to the Essex UnITe website. This site is an opportunity for you to share memories, knowledge, internet links and events with friends. The social aspect of the site allows you to communicate and comment on each others content and maybe make new friends in the process. All content is monitored by our staff and we even provide a button for you to report anything you think is offensive (more on that later). But first a quick overview of the common parts of the site:
- This is the logo of Essex UnITe but it's also a button that will always take you back to the start. So if you get a bit lost just click on this!
- This is the search box. Just type words or a phrase in here and click to 'search' and the site will return a list of content that matches your search. By ticking the little box marked 'Tick this box to search Google' a new page will open a Google search for you.
- These are buttons that allow you to change the text size on the page. To return to the 'normal' size just click the smallest 'A'.
- These links permit access to almost everything on the site, so if you know where you're going just use one of these. The 'about us' page gives an overview of the project, and the 'contact us' page allows you communicate directly with us.
- This is where our featured content is presented in a slide-show. Periodically a member of staff will change these so keep an eye out for anything new. And who knows, maybe your memory, article or event will be featured!
- This will bring you back to this tour, it appears at the top of every page.
- If you aren't signed in this will be a link to our sign-in page. Otherwise you will see your name and buttons to add new content or log out. By clicking your name you can see your profile.
Viewing site content
- This area shows the name of the item, what the item is (in this case a memory) along with the name and picture of the author. By clicking on either the name or the picture you can see this users profile page.
- Any pictures associated with the item will appear here. If smaller images appear beneath the bigger one just click on them to see them at a larger size. Clicking the large imge will open it in an even larger size as shown on the following page of this tour.
- These are the tags for this item. Tags are words or phrases associated with the item, think of them like categories. More on these on the next page of this tour.
- When logged in with a user account you will be able to like or dislike an item as well as edit this item if you are an author. To bookmark an item just click on the little blue star, it will turn yellow if the bookmark is sucessful. Bookmarks appear as a list on your profile page.
- This is a comment, as with item #1 you can see the name and profile picture of the commenter. As this is my comment I can see a 'delete' button to remove it, otherwise I would see a 'report abuse' button.
- This shows the five most recent, and five most popular of the items type, in case memories. It's a way of showing you other potentially relavent and interesting content.
